A few years ago I

A few years ago I had a dream that I could breathe underwater and my apartment had filled up with water like a huge aquarium. When the dream began, I was watching Jacob sleep, and bubbles began floating from his mouth. Strange considering the room looked dry, but seconds later I noticed water flowing down the bedroom walls...you know...kinda like those water walls you see in shopping malls. Well, eventually, the room was seamlessly filled with water...not even a bubble of air from the ceiling to the floor. I know it sort of sounds scary because it's hard not to get hung up on the humans-breathe-air-and-have-poor-eyesite underwater situation, BUT somehow in the dream we were able to see clearly and breathe effortlessly. SO IT WAS GREAT! I'm sure other things happed in the dream, but all I can remember was that we were swimming around like the happiest mermaid and merman one ever did see...or one ever did imagine. Anyway, the dream was really soothing, and sometimes when I'm stressed out, I think about swimming around my enviornment to alleviate stress. If you get a moment, I recommend thinking about what room or building you would want to make your own aquarium. And do share your thoughts! For those of you perplexed by the impending doom of electrical problems, pluming disasters, and or general property damage...imagine that you have the ability to aquariumize the place of your choice and the ability to snap your fingers again to turn everything back to normal...oh yeah...no electrical or sewer problems would occur.

P.S. Today, I was thinking the Sistine Chapel would be neat because you could swim up to the paintings on the ceiling, but I think I would pick either a castle (it's doorless and the tapestries would be kinda kelpish), OR the room to the right of the entry of the City Museum (It has all these amazing mother of pearl murals and the ceiling has all this silky cloth stuff streaming down. I think that setting would create one heck of a magical swim). So, what room or building would you want to swim in?
P.S.S. The picture is of the City Museum room I was referring to. It's much more glorious in person, but you get the idea.

Heidi, that's a really nice shot of the City Museum. I once wanted to hold a party there. I decided that I couldn't afford it, but I never let that idea die.As far as which room of mine I'd fill with water-- I'm having so much trouble filling it dry I can't even begin to imagine filling it with water. See?But maybe... maybe the White House. Isn't that a funny image? (giggle) Floating politicians...

Heidi, you also might like walking around your place holding a mirror towards the ceiling. Just look down and imagine it is the floor. Ceiling fans are suddenly a wonderful merry-go-round... (This was one of my many childhood entertainments). My fantasy waterworld? the Taj Mahal! heidi h

Heidi H., you are right on about the joy of ceiling walking with mirrors. Jacob introduced me to the idea, and it was in fact a wondrous time. I especially enjoyed "walking over" the door frames but...YIKES...those end tables on the actual floor! It's all fun and games til you bash your shin on the reality below! Hey, did you know our name means "noble" and "kind" in Old German? Later Mrs. Noble.

heidi v & heidi h, wonderful choices of imaginitive underwater venues. i'd like to be in the pageant bouncing around with my friends, doing weightless underwater flips while sufjan stevens performed. magical.

Bunny ;)Your place is a bit bare bones at the moment, but I adore the hardwood floors! :) Ah, the White House would be a joy...you could have water all the way to the gate...and post a sign that said..."This is Watergate. Come swim in the scandal"!P.S. We missed you at the new song singing time! :(

The Pageant would be great, Angela! I would love to join you for a good swimming through the rafters to Sufjan! Hey, speaking of Sufjan, he's from Holland and I used to see them play a lot when he was in the band "Marzuki”. I really enjoyed listening to Shannon Stevens, the singer, but I remember thinking Sufjan was goofy with his little wire glasses and pan flute.

i think maybe somewhere with lots of rafters or things to swim around and push off of. we used to go snorkeling when we go to the coast and there was a cave that you'd have to dive down and through a tunnel to get to. scary but oh so cool and watch out for the lion and angel fish. that's what this post made me think of...as well as harry potter and the goblet of fire.

Sarah you got to scuba dive in a cave? That's SO amazing. Scuba diving has fascinated me since I saw the movie "The Big Blue". I went once and…well…It’s not as easy as it looked in the movies. Good point about the rafters. I think I'm going to Google lion fish...I have no idea what they are! They sound fierce! Groooowl…bubble…bubble…Grooowl!

they're really poisonous. it actually wasn't scuba diving, just snorkeling. we used to go out on the reef when we'd go to the beach in kenya and the tide would go out. ahhhh, memories!

I have had dreams in which i could fly, not in a fast, high dramatic sort of way, but in which I just become relatively but not completely weightless. I usually just kick my legs up and flap my arms and float up, back toward the ground. Weird, but fun. If I had to pick an indoor space to float in, perhaps the Fox or the Cathedral Basillica. That place is amazing.

Ahhh I see Sarah! You went snorkeling (with the glorified straw thing)not to be confused with scuba diving (with the tight wetsuits and oxygen tank). Sounds even better cause it's less confining!Neil, flying dreams are so neat! AND Oh my yes the Cathedral Basilica would be quite serene! I am dying to swim out of this cubical!

Thank you Miss Mark! I thought about you and your love for your students, when I was writing about my dad.

Hmmm... Today I went for a swim. I let myself float and I stared up at the sun and just let everything go: my thoughts, my weight... ah, it was fantastic. I also love swimming laps during a moon-lit night. You spend a few seconds under the water and then up to the silver moon. Down, up, down, up... Have you read "The Princess in the Goblin"? It reminds me of being bathed in the old Grandmother's tub. I choose to swim in a natural body of water Heidi. I can't think of anything more grandiose then touring the Ocean floor, or letting the mouth of a river spit me out to sea...There you go. now I want to hear about your fits of laughter!

That sounds so nice Laura. Claw foot tubs are wonderful...I like sitting in them with bubbles up to me neck with a good Virginia Wolf novel and soap that smells like vanilla or roses. But the floor of the bathroom should be tile and only have natural light peeking in from the window. If not, the entire mood can be squelched.
